Black Mirror is coming to paper format

Video streaming company Netflix is switching up its formats, with one of its leading original series, Black Mirror, set to be released as a book.

Series creator Charlie Brooker announced that the prophetic series documenting the dangers of tech and the twisted psyche of humanity, will be released in "high-tech 'paper' format".

Three books are scheduled for release, the first of which will release February 2018, each tapping “the imaginations of some of the leading names in contemporary fiction”.

The product listing reads: “Edited by Charlie Brooker, the creator of the hit Netflix original series Black Mirror, this book takes the very essence of the globally-acclaimed cult TV show to create new, original, darkly satirical stories that tap into our collective unease about the modern world.”

While it is not unusual for shows to release additional merchandise, it is worth underlining how paper conflicts with the futuristic view of the show, and underlines how Brooker is experimenting with new ways to deliver Black Mirror stories.

The show moved from Channel 4 to the video streaming company after two series and critical success. Netflix has keenly marketed the show, with a creepy anti-ad block ad and a person rating app.
