Infographic: 86% of children under three regularly use smartphones and tablets

86 per cent of children aged three and under regularly use mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets and 26 per cent have their own device, according to new research conducted by mobile-first development specialists Apppli.

Tablet computers are the most popular device among pre-schoolers with 43 per cent using a tablet regularly, followed by smartphones (40 per cent) and laptops (13 per cent).

The survey found that 90 per cent of under-threes use mobile devices to watch videos, with Facetime and learning apps also proving popular.

The research also examined parental attitudes to toddlers using mobile devices and revealed that 70 per cent of parents feel that technology is “absolutely essential” to the development of their children, while 86 per cent regularly check the parental control settings on their children’s devices.

The infographic is based a survey conducted in early September 2014, which received 149 responses.
