Tan, who spent two decades at SPH, fronted advertising print sales for the media conglomerate for 13 years, before moving up to lead its digital transformation efforts. She was instrumental in helping SPH form a programmatic alliance called the Singapore Media Exchange with its rival, Mediacorp.

Tan also sat on the board of IAB Singapore, now renamed IAB South East Asia and India in 2017, and held the roles of a board member, treasurer and vice chair. She was nominated for The Drum’s Digerati Asia Pacific 2018 for her accomplishments and made the final top 50 list.

In her new role at Carousell, Tan will lead the teams in scaling up operations for the platform in Singapore and across the region and reports to co-founder and chief executive officer Siu Rui Quek.

“I am deeply honoured and humbled at the chance to work alongside Carousell’s visionary founding team. I knew they were destined to achieve great things from the first time we met back when they had first started the company,” said Tan.

“Despite their incredible success in a short span of six years, the leadership team’s deep commitment and mission-driven values to make an impactful change in the world have never wavered. Their humility and willingness to learn and grow, not only themselves but also their people, moved me. I am excited for the opportunity to help make the founders’ dream come true so that we might show the world what Singapore born and bred companies are capable of.”

On the same day it hired Tan, Carousell also announced it has added former Amazon vice president Colin Bryar to its executive leadership team as an advisor. Spending more than a decade at the Seattle-based company, one of his early roles saw Bryar serving as technical advisor to Amazon’s chief executive officer Jeff Bezos for two years.

Most recently the chief operating officer at Alibaba-owned RedMart, Bryar will focus on helping Carousell identify opportunities for faster growth and improving the customer experience for users across the region.

“We are always on the lookout for world-class talent who shares our values and passion for solving meaningful problems with technology, and we are tremendously fortunate to have found that in Su Lin and Colin,” said Siu.

“Their collective experience and proven track record in transforming organisations amidst complex digital environments will be invaluable as we power through our next chapter of growth. It is an absolute privilege and I look forward to learning from them as we continue to innovate classifieds in an AI-first world.”
