Charlotte McEleny steps up to become The Drum’s APAC publisher

The Drum’s Asia editor, Charlotte McEleny, has been promoted to APAC publisher to spearhead the media brand’s ambitious content and commercial strategy in the region.

Charlotte McEleny has been named The Drum's APAC publisher

This new position is in recognition of the key role McEleny has played in establishing The Drum as a media force in Asia since joining from Marketing Magazine in the UK almost three years ago.

Based in The Drum’s APAC headquarters in Singapore, McEleny’s shrewd editorial leadership has driven The Drum to consistent year-on-year readership growth. The Asia Pacific audience now represents around 20% of The Drum's global readership, at over 300,000 unique page views a month across the region, growing at over 40% year over year.

She has also been a driving force in the creation of The Drum’s first major awards scheme in Asia, The Drum Digital Trading Awards APAC, and championing Asian creativity and innovation through the Creative Cities and Machines & Marketers events.

After more than a decade as a digital media and technology journalist, which has included the digital editor role at Marketing and a spell as news editor of New Media Age, McEleny will now take on greater responsibility in the newly-created APAC publisher post. She will also continue to lead the editorial output while she grows the team on the ground.

She said: "The exciting part of this new role is really what it means for The Drum in Asia Pacific.

“We have big plans for 2019 and being able to oversee this across the editorial and commercial sides means I can use all the insight we've gained from the market across almost three years and feed it into some special plans. We're building a really passionate team that represents what The Drum is all about. It's time to just take that up a notch!"

McEleny’s move is part of The Drum’s drive to become the world's marketplace for marketers.

The Drum website attracts over a million unique users a month across the world and last year its print counterpart was relaunched as one global edition.

Highly experienced journalist Ginger Conlon was last week confirmed as The Drum’s new US editor and more key appointments to lead the company’s global vision will be revealed imminently.
