Tesla drops 'Motors' from web address hinting at change in focus
Electric car manufacturer Tesla has hinted at a change of focus with a quiet renaming of its website.
Tesla.com
The company changed its web address on Monday (18 July) from Tesla Motors to Tesla, according to Reuters.
The move indicates that the company is looking to pivot its attention to other markets with it also working on Powerwall home batteries in addition to the electric vehicles.
The company acquired the domain Tesla.com in February after it was picked up way back in 1992 by another party. It began transferring its internal email addresses soon after the acquisition but this is the first instance of its public facing entity making the change.
Additionally, the company is rumoured to be in the market SolarCity, with chief executive Elon Musk a major shareholder in both companies. All part of Musk's so-called 'masterplan'? Time will tell.
