Hashtag Facebook: Added code suggests that hashtags could be added to Facebook soon
In March, it was revealed that Facebook is considering introducing hashtag functionality into its network; and it seems that the announced may be made soon as hashtag code has been discovered in Facebook’s Javascript SDK.
Tom Waddington, a developer from Cut Out + Keep, found the mention in the code, suggesting to Inside Facebook that it is likely to be used for a XFBML hashtag plugin, similar to the hashtag tracking widget Twitter offers developers and publishers.
Waddington also pointed out that the URL facebook.com/hashtag leads directly to the Facebook website, and not to a 404 page, suggesting that a page by this name is set for release later.
In April, Facebook began to roll out testing on a tagging feature, allowing users to use emoticons to describe their mood, and link to what they are watching, reading or listening to.
