Rethink scooped the Grand Prix with ‘The Unburnable Book’ for Penguin Random House.

As part of The Drum’s annual Awards Festival, today we celebrated The Drum Awards for Design, which was broadcast live to the world from our studio in London.

Taking home the top prize, the Grand Prix, is Penguin Random House’s ‘The Unburnable Book’ by Rethink – a campaign that responded to a wave of censorship across the US that has seen books being challenged, banned and even burned at an alarming rate.

Rethink worked with Penguin Random House to create a special edition of a book that’s been challenged and banned for decades. Then it got Margaret Atwood to test it with a flamethrower.

Printed and bound using fireproof materials, this edition of The Handmaid’s Tale was made to be completely unburnable. It is designed to protect this vital story and stand as a powerful symbol against censorship.
