Nintendo has committed itself to a pipeline of between two and three mobile games per year as it ramps up efforts to diversify from home consoles to smartphones.

Following on from the success of Super Mario Run and continued strength of Pokemon Go Nintendo will attempt to turn around its flagging fortunes by focusing on the growth potential presented by the sector.

The move was announced by president Tatsumi Kimishima after the venerable gaming giant was forced to slash its expected full-year operating profit by a third in the face of waning sales.

During a briefing Kimishima confirmed that 70 developers are beavering away on over 100 titles for its impending Switch game console, upon whose success the company is pinning most of its hopes ahead of its March debut.

Kimishima has previously suggested the gaming firm would build on its mobile ambitions by producing animated movies based on its popular roster of characters.
