Following the release of ‘Wall and Chain’, an animated video marking the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Airbnb chief marketing officer Jonathan Mildenhall has revealed it is Aibnb’s ambition to start telling more inspirational Airbnb travel stories.

Speaking in a video on the travel brand’s Facebook page, Mildenhall explained: “Each and every weekend Airbnb actually breaks the Guinness Book of World Records for putting more strangers in people’s homes than ever before in history.

“It’s a fantastic story platform and it is our job to start telling those stories to inspire more and more people about the deep and meaningful and significant connections they can make when travelling Airbnb.”

Discussing ‘Wall and Chain’, which tells the true story of two former border guards (Joerg and Kai) from the East and West sides of the Wall who met through a chance encounter on Airbnb, Mildenhall called it a “profound story of human connection and human transformation.”

“I believe in the value of travel to genuinely break down borders and to break down prejudice,” he added.

The video discussing the creation of ‘Wall and Chain’ also features insights from Dennis Geodegebuure, Airbnb head of global SEO; border guard Kai and Caroline, the daughter of the other border guard, Joerg.
