Singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan has pitched her tent on Busch Light territory to preach animal activism in a comically confused monologue.

The unlikely marriage of beer, outdoor survival training and animal rights sees McLachlan steal the limelight from the brand’s rugged ‘Busch Guy’ mascot with an impromptu appeal to the heart and wallet.

Shelter sees Busch Guy offer three pearls of wisdom to would-be campers to be upstaged by the surprise appearance of animal lover McLachlan, who emerges from a nearby tent with a wolf, only to be told Busch is focused on a shelter of a different kind.

Krystyn Stowe, head of marketing, Busch family and natural family at Anheuser-Busch, remarked: “Busch Light fans will love our spin on Sarah McLachlan’s iconic commercial as they always appreciate a bit of humor that ultimately serves a good cause – especially when it comes to great outdoors we both hold dear.”

McLachlan added: “Busch Light shares my love of animals and the wilderness so, while it seems unexpected, this spot is a really clever and good-hearted mix of my passions and their brand.

“Last year, Kenny G revived the beer brand’s classic Head for the Mountains song and that’s a tough act to follow but I love that Busch Light is playing into nostalgia again with a new rendition of my ‘Angel’ ASPCA commercial and I can’t wait to see how people react!”

After previously exhorting people to pee into cans instead of trees Busch Light will donate $25,000 to One Tree Planted to help restore forests as part of the tie-up. The brewer is also resuming its social sweepstakes for the Super Bowl offering fans the chance to win a mountain’s worth of Busch Light.
