At a launch event (16 October), chief executive Alex Mahon made commitments to boost creativity across the nations and regions and develop a wider talent pool of broadcast professionals. The staff event took place in Channel 4's short-term West Gate office ahead of its move into The Majestic premises next year.

250 members of staff will be housed at the location, ranging across creative, digital and technology departments. It will boasts a digital creative unit, a new in-house digital agency and Channel 4 News will establish a news hub.

Mahon said: “The launch of our National HQ in Leeds is the start a new era for Channel 4. An era in which we will be rooted in and more connected to the lives of the communities that make up the UK.

“Channel 4 will not just look and feel different but will think and behave differently. We’ll be more accessible to our partners in the industry and more visible to those that may one day work in it. It’s the biggest change in our 37-year history and I’m so proud that we’re now here.”

It comes a week after the broadcaster ran a provocative outdoor ad introducing its presence outside the M25.

Leeds is the first and biggest of the three new Channel 4 regional bases to launch, with Bristol’s Finzels Reach development and Glasgow’s Garment Factory sites following later this year. They will add to the media owner's London HQ and sales office in Manchester.
