Scania (Great Britain) has appointed Paul Smith as marketing director.

Smith joins the auto firm from advertising agency RLA, where he was commercial director and was involved in Scania contracts in the UK, South Africa and China. He has previously held roles at VW Group and General Motors Europe.

From the auto giant's GB headquarters in Milton Keynes Smith will take overall responsibility for the centralised marketing of Scania's products and services and will provide marketing support to the company's nationwide dealer network.

Martin Hay, managing director of Scania GB, said: "Having worked closely with Paul for a number of years, I am confident he will be a perfect fit within our organisation. The breadth of his experience brings fresh thinking and ideas into the company and will stand us in good stead at a time when the entire automotive world is undergoing rapid and radical change. On behalf of the entire Scania team, I wish Paul every success in his career with us."

On his appointment, Smith said: "Scania is one of the most respected names in the automotive world and I am delighted to be joining the company at this time.

"The sustainability challenges faced by our industry today are redefining the ways in which manufacturers operate and present themselves to market, and I am looking forward to help further develop and promote the Scania brand at such an exciting time."

Scania is a part of Traton AG and is a leading manufacturer of trucks and buses with more than 49,300 staff.
