Recognising that the field now contributes over £100bn to the UK economy, James has allocated £14m towards an industry-led creative careers programme to raise awareness among young people of the opportunities presented by the sector.

A further £4m component will be reserved for creative enterprises across Bristol, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands to enhance regional growth while £2m will be allocated to continue the ‘Get it Right’ copyright awareness campaign until 2021.

A smaller sum of £390,000 will be harnessed to inspire a new generation of games creators and develop pitches for new content ideas.

James said: “This package will take the sector from strength to strength by arming the next generation of creatives with the necessary skills and giving businesses in the sector the support they need to succeed.”

Over the summer the UK government pledged £1m to assist underrepresented talent in entering the digital industry.
