Anna Stone

Below is Anna Stone, one of those at the top of their field who work in the UK biz dev sector.

Name: Anna Stone

Job Title: new business & marketing manager

Agency: Ogilvy

What were your highlights of last year?

Being part of the teams winning 14 new clients at OgilvyOne last year including Boots, British Airways (again), Vodafone, Korn Ferry, NFL, TK Maxx, Intuit Quickbooks Expanding my role to cover B2C as well as B2B Being part of the team organising the Ogilvy & IBM Watson hackathon - using AI to solve health issues Being invited to be part of The Art of New Business committee Travelling to Nepal as part of Many Ogilvy Hands to visit and help communities rebuild after the 2015 earthquake

What has been your most memorable win - and why?

Formula 1 - I love motorsport so it was a dream brief and to be part of the team winning it made it a dream come true!

How would you describe your approach to business development?

The bottom line might be sales but the key is to introduce the right agency to the right brand - the best relationships really do create the best work - and a mismatch from the start rarely gets better.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Shout about your achievements.

What would be your number one tip to anyone starting in business development?

Be observant - whether it's remembering that brand manager who said they'd be reviewing next year, noting that your manager really values punctuality, or presenting the numbers to the client who values measurement, it's the details that will get you wins in personal and business development.

What is your new business soundtrack?

Right now my tender writing soundtrack is Imagine Dragons Night Vision album - powerful and positive - but it varies over time, it's also been The Eagles, Brandon Flowers, Dire Straits, Mumford & Sons, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and Bastille!
