The team made its debut yesterday at the Gfinity Elite Series held at Gfinity Arena in Fulham, where 10 teams are battling out for a top prize of £25,000.

According to The Sun’s statement, the eSports industry is projected to be worth £2bn globally by 2023, with the UK audience expected to grow 7.5% year-on-year to reach eight million people by 2019.

DTG Editor Talal Musa said: “Gaming has become an integral part of Dream Team with hundreds of thousands of people reading our gaming content every week - a number that continues to grow.”

Ed Bearryman, head of content marketing at The Sun said: “The Sun has a proud tradition in the online gaming world through its Bingo, Betting & Fantasy Football businesses, and the launch of our inaugural eSports team represents an excellent opportunity to build on that reputation with a global audience. The Gfinity Elite series is a well-renowned tournament and we are looking forward to making our mark.”
