Britain’s freshly appointed culture secretary Matt Hancock has embraced the digital zeitgeist with the launch of a personalised ‘mobile-first digital community’ for his constituents in West Suffolk.

Launched as a ‘third space’ from which to engage with constituents the digital tool is intended to circumvent social media by giving people a contained platform from which to sound off in a moderated environment.

Devised by community platform Disciple the app is intended to expand the service to all MPs in time, giving their hosts the benefit and security of complete editorial control and privacy as well as advanced analytics to establish which members are asking what, when and how often.

Hancock said: “Harnessing the amazing advancements in tech to improve the lives of everyone is vital. Next-generation community platforms like Disciple are a brilliant example of how we can use tech to foster healthy online engagement. So, I’m delighted to have the chance to use this to build a safe, open and accessible online community for my West Suffolk constituents and I to engage with the issues that matter to them.”

You can download the Matt Hancock app now via iOS and Android devices.

Hancock succeeds Karen Bradley in the role of culture secretary, who was only appointed in July 2016.
