Former Liverpool star Stan Collymore’s masterplan to reignite the kind of passionate and opinionated sports reporting of a bygone era for the live-streaming generation is now underway following the launch of his new digital platform Call Collymore.
Tired of what he sees as overly impartial opinions of traditional football broadcast formats, such as Match of the Day, Collymore has set out to recapture the passion of the game while circumventing the restraints of traditional broadcasters who are struggling to adapt to how people are viewing sport.
The result is his new Call Collymore app, which went live this past weekend and offers football fans a new way to engage with the award-winning broadcaster and football pundit who has built a brand on voicing his opinion when others steer towards neutrality.
The app provides an interactive content and social experience that encourages fans to become part of the post-match and wider sports industry conversation. In addition to the Call Collymore live shows, available in real time and on demand, the app also features interviews with high profile names from the world of sport and popular culture as well as contests and polls.
Digital agency Dog worked with Collymore’s agent and marketing consultant, Kate Hamer, to design and develop the app which both parties hope will capitalise on the evolving nature of how sports content is consumed by fans.
“Looking to the future of sports broadcasting and fan experience, Call Collymore is set to be a major player,” said Kayleigh Grieve, Dog’s head of sport and entertainment. “Being part of a creative digital project set to shape the industry in the coming months and years, is exciting.”
Grieve added: "The way people like to access content may be changing, and the format of content they seek out is certainly evolving, but their passion for sport is not. We set out to design and build a mobile user experience for fans that felt exploratory and alive, and which brought Stan's passion and energy to the fore. Call Collymore provides a mobile experience dedicated to growing a genuine global community for those with a thirst for open conversation and passion for sport at their core.
"There’s plenty more in the pipeline for the platforms too, the app’s linear UX allows us to add and retract content sections as we move forward.”
The free to use app and mobile-optimised site already has sponsors on board and given the popularity of the award-winning Call Collymore show, its likely more will look to target the database of listeners.
