We Love Digital looks to MCM London Comic Con to find next supermen and wonder women

Lovers of all things super sci-fi will be descending on the capital today as the three-day MCM London Comic Con kicks off at the ExCel, however one Maidstone-based digital agency is seeing Comic Con as more of a recruitment opportunity than a chance to get an autograph from Dr Who.

Growing digital agency We Love Digital, which counts Sony, Yamaha, DFDS and Endemol among its clients, has found traditional recruitment tools sadly lacking when trying to find the talent it requires to expand its team and so agency directors will be visiting Comic Con with a few tricks up their sleeves to identify potential new recruits.

Agency MD and creative director Mark Anderson is urging all digital designers, UX experts and digital project managers attending London Comic Con to get involved in a few challenges that they are going to be setting during the two-day festival to prove that they could be made of the right stuff to join the agency.

On Friday the team be leaving little surprises all around Comic Con in the form of Poke Eggs. Those Eggs will be released randomly throughout the day and they are inviting Comic Con attendees to hunt out their eggs and hatch them to win a prize and to also show they might have what it takes to join the We Love Digital team.

Speaking of the unusual approach to recruitment Anderson said: “We’ve been really busy just lately and as hard as we love to work, we’ve found ourselves in need of a few more people. Thing is, the usual recruitment routes just weren’t finding the right kind of folks, with the right personalities and the right skills.

“So, we thought, if this were a David Attenborough documentary, where would people like us naturally congregate? People who like Game of Thrones, Pokémon Go, bacon butties and protein shakes? Well, the home of all things pop culture – London Comic Con – of course.”

“We want to recruit a mid-weight digital designer, a UX architect, and a project manager. But we don’t want any old body. WLD has a unique dynamic and we need someone who fits with our personality, as well as being capable of doing the work – because for us it’s all about how we work together.

“What type of person are we looking for? A creative, open-minded thinker. A person with quirks and with their own passions.”

On Friday and Saturday the We Love Digital team will be handing out cards with all the details attendees will need should they want to be considered for a role with the agency.
