The panel was due to go ahead on Thursday morning (23 June), however after the news broke over the weekend of Yelchin's death, which was caused by a freak accident, Paramount decided to abandon the talk.

"All of us are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Anton Yelchin. Out of respect, we are withdrawing our participation in the previously announced Star Trek Beyond event at Cannes Lions this week," said Paramount in a statement.

The 27-year-old was killed by his own car after it rolled down his driveway, and pinned him against a mailbox and a security gate.
