PlayStation VR confirmed for 13 October release at $399
Virtual reality fans keen to get their hands on a PlayStation VR headset can mark down 13 October in their diaries and start saving up the necessary $399 because Sony has finally confirmed the gadget’s release date and price.
Sony’s entry into the virtual reality field was unveiled at an E3 press conference and follows the launch of Facebook’s Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. Whilst underpowered relative to its peers the PlayStation VR nevertheless promises to gain the greatest market share courtesy of its relatively low price and existing PS4 customer base.
Illustrating its enthusiasm for the technology Sony also unveiled a slew of some 50 games which will be available to players before the year is out, including new instalments in the Star Wars, Batman and Final Fantasy franchises.
In the meantime Sony is set to drip feed further information on these titles to whet the appetite ahead of its autumn launch, doubtless with a few surprises remaining up its sleeves for good measure.
