Twitter has much planned for social media users under the leadership of Jack Dorsey and as a result the company is trying to futureproof against the inevitable rise of live video by testing a new button that makes it easier for users to share their Periscope stream.

On the Android Twitter app, a small sample of users have been able to create a new Periscope live video straight from the tweet composition screen.

In effect, the integration sends mobile users to the separate Periscope app but helps bridge the gap between this and the Twitter feed. The Verge argues the move could help Twitter compete against Facebook’s seamlessly designed ‘Live’ proposition that does not require the switching of apps.

The company told the Verge: “We're rolling out a 'Go Live' button in Twitter to a small percentage of users.

"Over time, all users will have the ability to start a Periscope broadcast from Twitter."

It comes as Twitter looks to make itself more multimedia friendly, gone are the days when it served as a concise replacement for SMS messages. As a result it will soon no longer counting images and links in its 140 character limit.
