Google Cardboard finally arrives in the UK
Google is now making its Google Cardboard virtual reality headwear available in the UK.
Previously Google Cardboard was only available in the US but the no-frills headpiece that allows users to use their phone as a VR headset will now be released in the UK, Germany, France and Canada.
The cardboard headset originally launched in the US in June 2014 and has since shipped over five million units.
It will now be available for purchase from the Google Store for £15 or two for £25.
Google has also released the design specifications for the cardboard headset so users can craft their own. The materials to do so are corrugated cardboard, a pair of lenses with a 40mm focal distance, two magnets to act as hardware buttons, some velcro strips, and an 8cm rubber band to hold the phone in place.
The decision to make the headwear more widely available will help Google push forward its VR apps and games from its Android store and increase the popularity of VR and 360 degree content on YouTube.
