A Star Wars: The Force Awakens branded Monopoly set has been accused of slipping to the Dark Side by fans after the manufacturers neglected to include any mention of the film’s lead, Rey, in the set.

To add insult to injury the iconic figure of Darth Vader, who does not even feature in the film, is given pride of place on the front of the box alongside Finn, Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker - but the heroine herself is notable only by her absence.

Outraged fans have taken to Twitter using the hashtag #whereisrey to call for the characters inclusion, alleging sexism in the prioritisation of male characters over their female counterparts such as Captain Phasma.

Manufacturer Hasbro defended the merchandise however, stating that an even split of characters representing the Empire and Rebels had been chosen alongside characters from the Star Wars ‘legacy’.

Responding to the campaign Disney’s senior vice president and head of licensing for Lucasfilm, Paul Southern, said: “Rey and Phasma feature prominently across hundreds of products, and are selling exceptionally well.

“In many stores and e-commerce destinations, products featuring Rey are selling as quickly as retailers can restock shelves. Fans will also be seeing a lot more of Rey with a new wave of product coming in January.”

Rey is played by the actress Daisy Ridley and Captain Phasma by Gwendoline Christie.
