Twitter is doubling down on its efforts to engage more with the gaming community with the hire of Rodrigo Velloso as its first director of gaming partnerships.

In September, the platform poached Velloso from Google where he was director of gaming content at YouTube. He now reports to Kirstine Stewart, head of North American media at Twitter.

Velloso recently told Variety that while his “entire career at Google revolved around content partnerships" he wanted "to work with content creators and give them the tools, or in some cases build them the tools, to allow them to produce the best content.”

The gaming industry is worth an estimated $92bn and Twitter is eyeing deeper relationships with the developers, creators, and gaming events that sit behind it. It will also likely lean on Velloso's experience to forge partnerhsips with individuals, such as YouTubers who have gathered millions of subscribers for their videos showing how to play popular games.

Velloso has already made strides, according to Variety, helping Twitter make the most out of a partnership with the Game Awards earlier this month through its video tools and Twitter Mirror.
