The BBC is to conduct its first live stream of an e-sports event after confirming that BBC Three would screen the quarter finals of the League of Legends World Championships on its website.

Set to take place at Wembley Stadium next week the on-screen battle will be presented by BBC Radio 1 DJ dev Griffin as teams compete in online role playing battles from a custom built ‘battle arena’.

This will see a mixture of live and pre-recorded material used alongside text, audio and social media commentary by the channel.

BBC Three controller Damian Kavanagh commented: "BBC Three will always experiment with new ways to deliver content that young people want, in ways they want.

"I think this is an exciting way to cover something millions of young Brits love, in a BBC Three way."

Teams from Europe, Asia and North America will take part in the contest ahead of the finals to be hosted at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin on 31 October, where the winning team will take home a $1m prize.
