UberNYC launched a feature called ‘de Blasio’s Uber’ that shows what would life would be like for NYC dwellers if his plan to cap drivers is passed.

The car service company said if the bill passes, it would only be allowed to add 201 new drivers with cars over the next year – even though it currently adds more drivers than that each week.

When users click on the optional feature – which is next to other standard ones like ‘uberT’ – they will see longer wait times and virtually no service outside of Manhattan.

Users are then prompted to sign a petition in protest of city council’s proposed bill.

David Plouffe, chief advisor for Uber, said: "Mayor de Blasio’s plan to stop Uber will cost 10,000 jobs, hurt underserved areas and make wait times for Uber cars skyrocket. With this view, New York City riders can see for themselves how much time this political payback to big taxi owners will cost them."

Mayor de Blasio and City Council say the reason they want to limit the service is because the influx of vehicles is making traffic worse in the city.

On 16 July, the taxi app was slammed with a $7.3m fine in California for refusing to turn over information regarding its business, such as accident details, to regulators.
