John Lewis and Vodafone have agreed terms to start selling mobile handsets at a limited number of stores in a UK-wide pilot.

The deal will see the retailer stock 25 SIM-free mobile models as part of its 'Never Knowingly Undersold’ brand proposition at John Lewis's Oxford Street and Cheadle branches.

Jonathan Marsh, a buying director at John Lewis: "We've got a very strong technology business and being able to offer customers mobile phones is an important part of our connected home strategy.

"We know from our website traffic and searches that customers are actively looking for mobiles from us, but it's important we go into this market in a John Lewis way."

Earlier this month John Lewis shared a list of the top 21 startups in with a chance of winning a prize from its investment fund.
