Uber US has started giving its drivers discounts on gas in a bid to make the company a better place to work.

The ride-hailing app announced the Partner Fuel Card today (9 June) which offers reduced-price gas to drivers partaking in over 200 rides a month.

The scheme, partnered by MasterCard, FleetCor and ExxonMobil, could save drivers a total of $0.15 per gallon on a maximum weekly spend of $200.

David Richter, Uber's vice president of strategic initiatives, told Mashable: “We take no cut at all, we pass on these savings on”.

The start-up is reportedly worth a staggering $50bn and is looking for ways to incentivise its drivers to stay on the paywall.
