Secret-selling Apple exec jailed for 1 year after delayed sentence
A former Apple executive who leaked company secrets to one of the firm’s suppliers has been sentenced to a year in prison.
Apple in September released the iPhone 6
A full three years after Paul S Devine pled guilty to wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering; the San Jose federal court on Friday gave the former executive a year in prison.
Although the court issued no reason as to why the sentence was delayed for a year, it was likely to protect Apple’s confidential data from being discussed in court before the launch of a major product.
Devine could have faced as much as 20 years in prison for passing confidential information to Apple suppliers and in return receiving payment, according to Mashable.
He orchestrated the accusations as Apple's global supply manager, a role which he held from 2005 until his arrest in 2010.
Recently, sapphire display firm GT Advanced claimed that Apple would charge suppliers as much as $50m for breach of its non-disclosure agreement.
