Sharon Flaherty, previously group head of PR and social media at Moneysupermarket, has left the comparison site to start her own agency – with the Guardian as one of its first clients.

Called BrandContent, the boutique content marketing and digital consultancy opens with four members of staff.

Flaherty said: “While many, but far from all brands have content, far fewer have a defined content strategy and purpose in place and this is the bedrock of success in content marketing.

"Another area where I see brands struggling is in truly integrating their content into their overall communications strategies. It needs to become seamless joined up with PR, social media, SEO, PPC, eCRM, the onsite customer experience and above the line, but this is where brands are falling down.

"It is crucial brands maximise every touch-point in the customer lifecycle using content as the driving force, this is where BrandContent can help.”

BrandContent has already started working with the Guardian on its Adobe sponsored social media hub.

The agency is also in the process of signing three clients from the financial services sector.
