Snapchat could be looking to join the ranks of Twitter and Facebook with electronic payments, following two trademarks being filed earlier this month.

One of the trademarks is for computer software for processing electronic payments, while the second is to allow processing of electronic funds transfer including credit cards and mobile payments.

With the service already used by brands such as Evian and Calvin Klein for campaigns, this could be an area where Snapchat is looking to grow.

Earlier this summer, Betfair launched a campaign which used Snapchat to offer exclusive odds: providing another in-app opportunity to monetise.

Snapchat's move towards monetisation comes at the same time as Facebook trials its 'buy now' button.
