Amazon has furthered the on-going price war with some of its retailers and blocked US consumers from placing pre-orders of the Lego Movie.

The film is still available for pre-order on Amazon sites outside the US, according to the BBC and can also be purchased from Amazon Instant Video.

The e-commerce giant has recently been using blocking tactics to intimidate retailers into negotiating better sales terms.

Last month, Amazon removed its pre-order button for a number of Hachette book titles, including JK Rowling’s The Silkworm, over a dispute about e-book prices.

Amazon Books issued a statement on the Kindle forum which read: "When we negotiate with suppliers, we are doing so on behalf of customers."

"If you do need one of the affected titles quickly, we regret the inconvenience and encourage you to purchase a new or used version from one of our third-party sellers or from one of our competitors.”

In 2010, it temporarily removed the buy buttons of Macmillan titles over e-book prices.
