Ray-Ban sunglasses manufacturer to develop custom Google Glass eyewear
Luxottica, the Italian manufacturer behind Ray-Ban sunglasses, is to distribute customised Google Glass eyewear as part of a strategic partnership with the search giant.
The deal will see Luxottica design, develop and distribute a customised frame for the Google Glass system, combining the functionality of Google’s system with the design expertise of the eyewear brand.
Luxottica’s two main brands, Ray-Ban and Oakley, will both be part of the venture, which aims to tap into the expected future demand for wearable technology.
Luxottica chief executive officer Andrea Guerra said: "We believe that a strategic partnership with a leading player like Google is the ideal platform for developing a new way forward in our industry and answering the evolving needs of consumers on a global scale."
