Procter & Gamble has used its appearance at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona to showcase its first connected toothbrush.

The Oral-B SmartSeries 7000, which will be on show at the conference for the week, is designed to connect users’ smartphones via a Bluetooth 4.0 connection in order to receive data on how they are brushing their teeth and assess their oral hygiene.

It will then analyse the data and make different suggestions to the user such as how to improve their brushing techniques. The purpose of this is not to “outsmart” dental professionals, but to work “hand in hand” with them, according to P&G.

Owners can use their smartphone as a remote control to customise their brush to their needs, for example setting how long they want to brush for and selecting preferred modes.

The toothbrushes are due to launch globally this June at the retail price of approximately £199 and the companion app will be available on iOS and Android.
