Guardian wins prestigious Walkely award months after Australian launch
Guardian Australia, the UK online newspaper, has won a prestigious Walkely award after launching in the territory earlier this year.It won the award in the multimedia storytelling category for its ‘Firestorm’ report.The iconic photos of the family sheltering under a boardwalk jetty became an iconic image of the tragedy.“Combining text with vivid imagery and high-quality video, they have woven their narrative into a compelling and immersive multimedia reconstruction,” the award citation read.Editor-in-chief, Katharine Viner said: “We are delighted to be recognised by the Walkleys for our digital journalism so soon after launching the Guardian in Australia.“We're trying to find innovative ways to tell Australian stories and Firestorm has had a global impact.
