With tests suggesting that Tian Tian, the giant panda at the Edinburgh Zoo, might be pregnant, Scottish Enterprise has suggested that a cub or cubs could bring £50m to the Scottish economy over the next decade. After two failed mating attempts with Yang Guang over the past year, Tian Tian was artificially inseminated by both Yang Guang and Bao Bao, another panda from Berlin Zoo.Figures from May 2013 found that the pandas have already led to a 51 per cent increase in visitor numbers at Edinburgh Zoo.If confirmed pregnant, it is expected that the cub or cubs will be born at the end of this month or the start of next month. With brands currently still cashing in on the birth of Prince George, it is expected that the same will happen for the birth of panda cubs: last year Lynx sponsored the pandas mating season.
