Google has this morning apologised after an accident meant that it de-indexed Digg, a website which helps users to find and share the best content on the web.

Google told State of Search: “We’re sorry about the inconvenience this morning to people trying to search for Digg.

“In the process of removing a spammy link on Digg.com, we inadvertently applied the webspam action to the whole site. We’re correcting this, and the fix should be deployed shortly.”

Digg is now back on the top of the Google search for the term, after the error which saw no pages from the site show up when searching.
