The BBC has today unveiled the job ad for the role of director general, stating that the broadcaster is looking for an ‘inspirational leader with the strong, clear vision that will take the BBC through the next review of the Corporation’s Charter’.

While a monetary value for the position is not given, the full description (which can be seen in the PDF below) says that it will ‘reflect the unique challenge and privilege of leading the BBC’.

Mark Thompson officially announced in March that he would step down following the Olympics, after months of speculation.

The ad describes an editorial background as ‘nice to have’, while experience of leadership of a creative organisation, understanding of the UK and strategic thinking are all ‘must haves’.

The deadline for applications is 7 May.
