The BBC has announced that it is going to recall Question Time from its summer break for a special episode on the riots.

The episode featuring David Dimbleby will air tomorrow at 10.35pm on BBC1, and will debate the widespread rioting and looting, the role of the police and what the underlying causes are. Guests for the show have not yet been confirmed.

On Friday, Richard Bacon will host UK Riots: Young Voter's Question Time on BBC Three, the first time the spin-off format has returned since the AV referendum in May. It will be shown at 8.30 pm.

Steve Anderson, executive producer of Merton Media, which is producing both shows, told BBC staff newspaper Ariel: “Millions of people are being affected by this week's events and want to put their concerns to the politicians who govern the country.

“The fact that we have been asked to produce two editions - one for the mainstream BBC1 audience, the other for younger viewers who watch BBC3 - is testament to the vital role that Question Time performs on British television.”
