In her resignation letter, Randi wrote: "I have spent my years at Facebook pouring my heart and soul into innovating and pushing the media industry forward by introducing new concepts around live, social, participatory viewing that the media industry has since adopted. We have made incredible progress, but there is still much to be done and other ways I can affect change.
"Now is the perfect time for me to move outside of Facebook to build a company focused on the exciting trends underway in the media industry." That was all she said. No mention of brother Mark - and there was was no comment from him in the Facebook company statement which said baldly: "We can confirm Randi has decided to leave Facebook to start her own company. We are all grateful for her important service. " The news was first reported by CNET.com. The coldness of the Facebook statement and the lack of a tribute from Mark about his sister's contribution, led some to speculate that there had been a major disagreement. The advent of Google+ has led to a great deal of twitchiness at Facebook, although the new boy is still a whopping 725 million behind the No 1 social network. However, CNET said Randi had been on maternity leave for three months, after her first child, and this had given her time to reflect on what she wants to do next phase in her career. "The move is likely to be much noticed, " said CNET describing Randi as "a high-profile and charismatic personality both inside the social-networking company and in Silicon Valley. " Earlier yesterday Randi was in the news with a powerful plea that there should be no anonymity on the internet.
