Francis Hopkinson, executive producer of BAFTA-winning series Wallander, has been appointed by ITV Studios to the role of creative director for drama.

Currently exec producer at Left Bank Pictures, Hopkinsonā€™s new position will see him responsible for developing and producing a range of new scripted dramas, both for the broadcaster and for external commissions.

Reporting to managing director Kevin Lygo, Hopkinson previously held the positions of commissioning editor for drama at Channel 4, where he oversaw programmes such as Sugar Rush, All In The Game and Skins.

Hopkinson said of his new role: "I am delighted to be returning to ITV Studios at a time when there is such great ambition for drama. I'm looking forward to working with Kevin and team to develop a new slate of drama for both ITV and external broadcasters."
