Apple abandons ‘pod’ trademark battle
Apple has finally abandoned attempts to trademark 'pod', after seven years of attempting to appease authorities.
The Canadian Intellectual Property Office yesterday published Apple's official notice of abandonment of the 'pod' trademark, which now leaves the door open for competitors to use the word for product names and branding.
The 'iPod' trademark is still legally protected.
Apple first filed to trademark the word on 29 April 2004 before halting its efforts on 13 April 2011.
