Paper Glider, currently number one on the UK App Store and developed by a south west agency, has become the 10 billionth iTunes download.

The game, developed by Cirencester-based iPhone games studio Neon Play, involves the player flicking the screen to create breeze in an attempt to blow a paper glider out of the window. It was released earlier this month and quickly rose up the charts due to its simple and addictive gameplay.

"We've been eagerly discussing the 10 billion app countdown in our game studio,” explained Neon Play managing director, Oli Christie.

“So when I got a call from Apple Cupertino saying they had some "good news", I thought they might tell us they were featuring one of our apps on the App Store. So when they said that Neon Play's Paper Glider was the 10 billionth app, I was completely and utterly dumbstruck. It's a great piece of news for the whole Neon Play team. Paper Glider is currently the number one app in the UK, so this is a double piece of great news for our studio."

A $10,000 iTunes gift card was up for grabs for the person who downloaded the app; however the winner, when contacted by iTunes vice-president Eddy Cue, assumed it was a prank and hung up, saying: 'Thank you very much, I'm not interested.'"

The winner, Gail Davis, whose daughter downloaded the celebrated app, lives in Orpington, Kent and realized her mistake when her two daughters explained that the competition was genuine. Luckily, another iTunes employee called Davis back shortly after to attempt to deliver the good news.
