Speaking last night at STV's new schedule launch, Alan Clements admitted that without the move towards producing more Scottish only content, the STV brand might well have disappeared.

As he presented the promotion video for the upcoming schedule which included many programmes produced exclusively for STV, Clements told the audience that had STV not chosen to ‘opt-out’ of more ITV programming it would have lost its identity.

“STV faced a crossroads over the last year as to whether to become simply ITV in Scotland or to take control of our own destiny. We chose the latter and the new Scottish programmes are the fruits of that strategy,” Clements commented.

The upcoming schedule included documentary Made in Scotland which examines the iconic symbols that gives Scotland such a strong international presence, High definition documentary Scotland Revealed, which explores the country from the air and a series covering the stories of many Scots who fought against Franco in the Spanish Civil War, entitled The Scots Who Fought Franco.

New episodes of Taggart will also be broadcast while new daily live show The Hour, which began last month, will also continue.

Earlier this week, STV signed a deal with the BBC to share resources such as pictures, facilities, training, technology and archive programmes.
