Valerie Plame is running for congress because she believes the country is going backwards on national security, health care, and women's rights.

In her campaign ad, she is seen backing down a dusty New Mexico road, talking about her history as a CIA agent whose identity was compromised becuase of political and personal scuffles. She sees her run as a way to right the wrongs that have been done.
