Eastenders is to jump on the Royal baby bandwagon this evening by shoehorning in a scene discussing the arrival of the new Prince.

Albert Square stalwart Dot Branning will be seen discussing the happy news with her granddaughter Abi in a specially shot scene.

“This is such a momentous occasion for the royal family, the country and of course the residents of Walford that we felt it should be marked in EastEnders history,” explained an Eastenders spokesperson.

This will not be the first time Wills and Kate have been featured in the show as back in 2011, footage of the Royal wedding was included just hours after the ceremony took place. Eastenders often drops in cultural references when big news stories break, previous news stories to feature on the square include Michael Jackson’s death, the 2010 general election and Andy Murray’s win at Wimbledon.
