MotorTrend and the BBC ink Top Gear America partnership

US automobile magazine MotorTrend is to co-produce a new Top Gear America series with the BBC as part of a multi-year partnership for the vehicle franchise.

The digital-first series will first appear inthe MotorTrend app where the new show will take its place alongside over 200 catalogue episodes of the hit format, all of which will be available on the streaming video service from 4 June.

Matt Forde, managing director of international production and formats at BBC Studios, added: “The MotorTrend audience will soon get to enjoy the entertainment that Top Gear has been delivering to the world for decades. From amazing cars to epic road trips and hysterical antics, viewers will get lost in their favourite mix of entertainment, comedy and cars. We look forward to working with the MotorTrend team to bring the new U.S. version to new and returning fans.”

Production will get underway on the revived series this summer with new hosts, cars and antics premiering in the autumn.

Top Gear’s original team comprising Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond quit back in 2015 to launch The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime.
