Star India bags Indian Premier League media rights for a record $2.55bn
Cricket continues to dominate the sports sponsorship realm in India. In a close bid between Facebook, Sony and Star India, Star India has emerged as the winner of Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights for TV and digital broadcast, with a record figure of $2.55bn. The rights will extend till 2022.

Sony enjoyed the media rights previously, while the contenders for the digital rights were Times Internet, Reliance Jio, Airtel and Facebook.
Previously, VIVO retained the title sponsorship for IPL 2018-22 with a record figure. They bid Rs 2,199 Crores, a 554% increase over the previous contract.

Despite huge expectation, there were no bids from Amazon, ESPN digital or Yahoo.
