Mobile app prototyping tool Pixate has been acquired by Google as the search giant continues to expand its design capabilities.

Pixate chief executive officer, Paul Colton, shared the news via a blog post on the Pixate site and teased the small Pixate team “has some really big ideas.”

“With the help of Google we’ll be able to bring those ideas to the design community at scale,” he wrote. “We’ve become an essential part of the workflow for tens of thousands of designers, and are excited about expanding our mission at Google.”

He added that Pixate Studio would now be available for free with the price of Pixate’s cloud service “dramatically reducing.”

A spokesperson for Google commented: “We’re thrilled to announce that Pixate has joined Google. Pixate adds to our ongoing effort to develop new design and prototyping tools.”

Despite the acquisition Pixate will continue as a standalone produce without interruption to the service or support.
