Amazon customers now need to spend at least £20 to qualify for free delivery as the online store doubles the minimum spend.

Amazon introduced a £10 minimum spend for free delivery back in 2013. The price increase follows Amazon's $57m (£36m) loss in Q4 2014.

Reports in the press following the rise suggest it could be a tactical move to push customers towards Amazon's £79-a-year Amazon Prime service which offers free delivery of Amazon goods as well as TV and movie streaming.

Amazon has made an exception for books where a £10 spend will still qualify for free 'super saver' delivery.
